About JQL

What does JQL mean and where does it come from? JQL is the founder's initials - John Quentin Lavelle.

JQL is a software house based in Cumbria, England. We write bespoke software, produce software for retail sale and produce Web sites.

JQL writes software in Delphi (which used to be called "Object PASCAL") and, occasionally, in Visual Basic (and VB Script). JQL also creates web sites in Delphi, HTML and Javascript.

JQL has been producing software since 1981 and has had a few notable "Firsts":

• JQL produced the first "Just-in-Time" Stock Control and Ordering system for Restaurants in 1983.
• JQL produced the first Shareware Spreadsheet for Windows.
• JQL the first program for the UK National-Lottery available on the front cover of a magazine two weeks before the launch of the Lottery in the UK.

Currently JQL is working on Visual Accounts, Database Driven Websites, Web Services, and some privately commissioned software.

Spelling & Grammar

We receive a number of e-mails questioning our spelling of the English language. This arises from the differences between the spelling norms adopted by the English speaking countries around the world.

As we are based in the United Kingdom, we have used British spelling for words like "recognise", "colour", "favourite", "organisation", "labelled" etc. Though some of the links and advertisements may contain alternative spellings.
