Gliding

"A Winch Launch is about the closest thing I can think of to being catapulted off the front of an aircraft carrier!" This is what John said after his first gliding lesson. He went on to say: "Gliding is not the slow and gentle sport I had always thought it was. You are busy all the time. It's totally different from flying a light aircraft. Quite simply, because there is nothing going 'round and round' at the front keeping you in the air, you have to work at staying aloft."

It sounds very exciting so visit the BGA's website, find an airfield near you and take a Trial Lesson TODAY - you'll be very glad you did.

John flies from The Dumfries & District Gliding Club based at Falgunzeon Airfield just to the east of Dalbeattie in Scotland. The setting is glorious, the scenery is stunning and, when in the air, the views defy description. They fly most Sundays, visitors are very welcome and Trial Lessons are available (phone 01387 760 601).
"Once you have tasted flight, you will walk the earth with your eyes turned forever skyward, for there you have been, and there you long to return" Leonardo Da Vinci

What direction is the wind (easterly means difficult landings and take offs from his club)? Is the wind westerly (the ridge is working for ridge soaring)? and so on. So to keep him quiet here's The Weather:
